Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday and is expected to appear before the probe agency for questioning in an alleged illegal betting app-linked money laundering case.

Once he appears before the federal probe agency, it is expected to record his statements under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The 38-year-old former all-rounder who played as a middle-order batsman for India and a spinner was asked to depose before the agency on August 13 for questioning in an illegal betting case linked to an app named 1xBet, a report by news agency PTI said.

The former India cricketer is understood to have been linked to the app through certain endorsements. The ED officials are expected to understand his links with this app during the questioning.

The agency is probing multiple such cases involving illegal betting apps that are alleged to have duped numerous people and investors worth crores of rupees or have evaded a huge amount of taxes.

Suresh Raina is a former Indian cricketer known for his aggressive batting and handy off-spin bowling. Born on November 27, 1986, in Muradnagar, Uttar Pradesh, Raina made his international debut in 2005 and quickly established himself as a vital middle-order batsman for India across all formats.

Over his career, he played more than 200 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 78 Test matches, known for his quick scoring ability and sharp fielding skills.

Raina was a key member of the Indian team that won the ICC World Twenty20 in 2007 and the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2011. He was also an influential player in the Indian Premier League (IPL), representing Chennai Super Kings, where he became one of the highest run-scorers in the tournament’s history.
