Gondwana artistes to perform cultural programmes in memory of Haimendorf at Marlavai on Jan 11

Haimendorf Youth Association and Rai Centre will jointly organise a host of programmes in connection with the 39^th death anniversary of renowned Austrian anthropologist Professor Haimendorf in Marlavai tribal village of Kumram Bheem Asifabad district to be observed on January 11, 2026.

Professor Haimendorf and his wife Elizabeth lived in Marlavai of the erstwhile undivided Adilabad district of the Nizam’s dominion in 1940s as part of a field study to know the problems of Raj Gonds. The couple endeared themselves with aboriginal people of the tribal region by contributing immensely to improve their living conditions.

This year, the organisers have planned a cultural event by Gondwana artistes and a slew of other programmes to mark the 39th death anniversary of Professor Haimendorf in Marlavai, a press release said.

Arrangements are being made by the district administration for the ensuing memorial meeting to be held in Marlavai on January 11.
