Government employees should not avail the benefit of the Mukhyamantri Maajhi Ladki Bahin Yojana for women, Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said.
Some women government employees have reportedly benefited from the scheme, even though they are not eligible for it. ”This scheme is for poor women. Those working in government and earning a salary should not take advantage of it. Some employees have wrongly taken ₹1,500 under the scheme,” Mr. Bawankule said on Saturday (May 31, 2025).
The government would recover the money in such instances, and some departments had already commenced inquiries, Mr. Bawankule said.
The scheme, launched in the previous Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government, provides ₹1,500 per month to eligible women in Maharashtra.
Mr. Bawankule denied the reported statement by Nationalist Congress Party-Sharadchandra Pawar (NCP-SP) chief Sharad Pawar that some members wished to merge the two NCP factions. “As per my information, there is no such discussion going on [between the factions]. State NCP chief Sunil Tatkare also said the same thing. So, there is no need to comment and create confusion,” the Minister said.
