The Government of Andhra Pradesh is going to introduce the Building Penalisation Scheme (BPS) soon. It is on the agenda of the Cabinet meeting scheduled on September 4 (Thursday).
It is expected to benefit more than one lakh people, including those who have constructed buildings with deviations and unauthorised structures.
It is estimated that there are more than one lakh such structures across the State, and once the scheme comes into force, the real numbers will surface, according to highly placed sources in the Department of Municipal Administration and Urban Development.
The department is planning to use the revenue accrued from the BPS for the development of the respective urban governing authorities such as municipalities and corporations.
The scheme allows a one-time settlement. Penalties will be imposed on those who do not regularise the deviations under the scheme and action will be taken against erring officers too.
The Chief Minister has reportedly instructed the officials to give wide publicity to the scheme.
