Chennai: A consumer court in Chennai has fined Gulf Air Rs 1 lakh for refusing to fly a former Tamil Nadu MLA on the grou-nds that his passport didn't have a surname, reports Ram Sundaram. Nizamudeen was to be in Dubai on Feb 10, 2023. Despite holding a UAE visa, he was refused boarding at Moscow airport. Nizamudeen took Gulf Air to consumer court.
The commission noted Air India had circulated guidelines in Nov 2022 allowing passengers with single-word names to travel if the family name appeared in their passports.
