A habitual offender who was wanted in multiple cheating and theft cases registered across tri-commissionerate of Hyderabad was arrested by the Kachiguda police on Monday (December 22).
The accused, identified as K. Sudheer, 43, was apprehended by the crime team of Kachiguda police station.
He was involved in at least 10 cases, including nine cheating cases and one two-wheeler theft, spread across the three commissionerates.
According to investigators, Sudheer, an MBA graduate and currently unemployed, was living in hostels after facing financial difficulties. During this period, he frequently interacted with RTC drivers and conductors and gathered information about vigilance procedures through toll-free numbers and online sources. Police said he noticed that some conductors on long-distance routes were negligent in their duties and occasionally slept while on duty.
Exploiting this, Sudheer allegedly recorded videos of the conductors without their knowledge and then contacted them while impersonating an RTC vigilance officer. To make the deception convincing, he used WhatsApp profile photographs of the present and former RTC managing directors and communicated in official language to intimidate the victims.
Based on technical evidence and surveillance, the Kachiguda police tracked and arrested Sudheer at 11 a.m. on December 22. A mobile phone and two SIM cards were seized from his possession, while a stolen two-wheeler linked to one of the cases was also recovered.
Police said the accused has a history of similar offences. He previously worked as a sales manager with a health insurance firm in Secunderabad between 2015 and 2017 and allegedly cheated several people of about ₹3 crore. Multiple cases were registered against him at Meerpet and other police stations, and he was remanded in those cases. Two non-bailable warrants have been pending against him at Meerpet police station for the past four years, officials added.
