Haryana IPS officer 'suicide': Family agrees for autopsy; cremation at 4pm

CHANDIGARH: SSP Chandigarh Kanwardeep Kaur on Wednesday visited the residence of IPS officer Y Puran Kumar to meet his wife, following intense developments in the case surrounding his death.

According to confirmed sources, the family has now agreed to a postmortem. Meanwhile, team of doctors have also started preparing for the postmortem examination at PGIMER Chandigarh, and the cremation is expected to take place around 4pm today. Earlier, Kumar's wife had demanded that senior officers Kapur and Bijarniya be named in the FIR for allegedly abetting her husband’s suicide. The family had refused to allow the postmortem and cremation until these demands were addressed. In a late-night development, the committee formed to seek justice for Kumar’s family expressed satisfaction over the Haryana government’s action, particularly the transfer of the DGP and SP Rohtak. The committee is now set to meet the Chandigarh Administration today, demanding a fair and transparent probe by the UT police.
