 Two suspended, hunt on to trace escapees

In a shocking turn of events, two jail wardens at Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan Central Jail in Hazaribag have been suspended after three POCSO convicts executed a bold escape, skillfully severing a window grill. Authorities are now mobilizing special task forces in Jharkhand and Bihar to track down the escapees, while a comprehensive investigation aims to uncover any additional security oversights.

Hazaribag: Two wardens have been suspended late on Thursday in connection to the jail break from Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan Central Jail in Hazaribag on the intervening night of Dec 30 and 31.

Officials hinted that axe might also fall on more officials based on the probe while special teams are on to trace the three convicts who are at large. Role of 28 JAP jawan who were on vigil are also being probed.Though authorities are yet to get any concrete clue about the escaped convicts, police and jail officials have raided multiple locations, including Bihar and Jharkhand.According to jail authorities, CCTV footage revealed that the inmates escaped by cutting the iron grill of window number 4 of barrack number 6.

The jailbreak took place between 1.36 am and 2.45 am, indicating that the escape was pre-planned.Jail superintendent Chandrashekhar Prasad Suman has lodged an FIR at Lohsinghna police station against the escaped prisoners. “A high-level probe is on, and a special task force was constituted to investigate the incident. A forensic team is also examining technical evidence,” he said.On the directions of Hazaribag SP Anjani Anjan, five special teams have been deployed to track down the fugitives. “Raids are being conducted not only in Hazaribag but also in Dhanbad, Ranchi, and suspected hideouts in Bihar," said an official.

Speaking to TOI on Friday, Anjan said, “Two wardens who were on duty were suspended by the Inspector General of prison. We have identified the lapses in the jail and efforts are on to plug the loopholes. The jail security is managed by jail officials, but we are ready to give all support needed.”SDPO Amit Kumar Anand said that all the three convicts who escaped belonged to Basopur area of Dhanbad. Sources said that all three were convicted under POCSO case.

Of them, one Deva Bhuiyan, was the main culprit, who plotted the escape, they added.“Deva was previously also lodged in this jail and was aware of the routes of escape. He had escaped from Dhanbad jail in 2021 and had remained underground for three and half years. He hid himself here in Hazaribag. More than dozen cases are pending against him in several police stations of Dhanbad,” said an official.
