London has officially inaugurated the Embassy of the State of Palestine, upgrading the Palestinian Mission after the United Kingdom recognized the statehood of Palestine.

In what is being hailed as a “historic moment," the Embassy of the State of Palestine was officially inaugurated in London on Monday. The step marks an important milestone in relations between the two countries following two years of tensions in Gaza. The Palestinians in London celebrated the inauguration of the Embassy.

The Ambassador of the State of Palestine to the UK, Husam Zomlot, unveiled a plaque outside the building and called the inauguration a “historic moment".

Zomlot shared the pictures on X and wrote, “Today, the Embassy of the State of #Palestine to the United Kingdom is officially inaugurated — a piece of Palestine on British soil; a symbol of peace, Sumud, dignity, and our people’s enduring pursuit of justice and freedom."

“My friends, what a way to begin a new year together, marking a profound milestone in British-Palestinian relations, and in the Palestinian people’s long journey to freedom and self-determination," Ambassador Zomlot said while addressing the crowd outside the West London mission.

The development comes following Britain’s recognition of a Palestinian state in September 2025. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer officially recognised a Palestinian state in September, alongside states including Australia and Canada.
