Leaders and activists of the TDP, the JSP and the BJP on Friday (December 19) organised a huge rally here, demanding that Rajampeta be declard as Annamayya district headquarters. Representatives of voluntary organisations, traders, lawyers and students also took part in the protest.
The rally with participants from across the Rajampeta and Railway Kodur Assembly constituencies began at the Old Bus Stand junction and culminated at the Sub-Collector’s office. The protestors raised slogans in support of “Rajampeta as District Headquarters”, highlighting administrative convenience and accessibility to the public.
The protestors contended that Rajamepta meets the requirements to function as an administrative center. They observed that the present district headquarters Rayachoti was geographically a distant entity to the people of Rajampeta division.
TDP in-charge (Rajampeta) Chamarthi Jaganmohan Raju, JSP parliamentary in-charge Vellaturu Srinivasa Raju, BJP leaders led by Potugunta Ramesh Naidu and a number of Congress activists took part in the rally.
Speaking on this ocassion, the protesters urged the government to consider the essential factors of location, infrastructure and population of Rajampeta to bestow it the status of district headquarters.
Later, the Coalition leaders submitted a memorandum to Sub-Collector H.S. Bhavana. They said the protests would continue, coupled with a bandh call on December 23, covering the Rajampeta and Railway Kodur constituencies.
