Hyderabad temple vandalism sparks unrest, temple idol partially damaged

Tension flared in Hyderabad after an unidentified individual entered the Puranapool Darwaza Mysamma Temple and partially damaged a flexi banner and a POP (Plaster of Paris) idol located in the temple veranda, a senior police official stated.

Following the temple vandalism on Wednesday night, a crowd of approximately 300 people gathered and vandalised a nearby Chilla. The same group reportedly attacked police personnel who were attempting to restore order, resulting in severe injuries to four officers.

The Kamatipura Police responded promptly to the incident, registering a case and collecting evidence from the scene, including CCTV footage. Investigating officers reported that significant information about the accused has been obtained, and the arrest is expected soon. Two FIRs have been lodged in connection with the incident.

Police have registered a separate case regarding the attacks on law enforcement and the damage to the religious site. Officials emphasised that the perpetrators had been identified based on CCTV and video recordings.

In response to online rumours, authorities clarified that only the flexi banner and the POP idol on the temple veranda suffered partial damage. The main idols inside the Sanctum Sanctorum remain intact and were not affected, the police stated.

Officials have urged the public not to believe or spread unfounded information regarding the incident, warning that legal action will be taken against those spreading fake news or attempting to disturb public order through social media platforms.

The Hyderabad Police reported that the situation in the area is completely under control and advised citizens not to panic. Law enforcement reiterated their commitment to taking action against anyone found disrupting law and order.
