Keerthy Suresh reveals her diet and fitness regimen

Actress Keerthy Suresh shares her fitness evolution, initially losing weight through excessive cardio, which led to muscle loss. She discovered that a high-protein, low-carb diet, combined with yoga and strength training, proved most effective and sustainable for her. Her journey emphasizes listening to one's body for optimal health. Take a look.

Staying healthy and fit doesn’t always mean spending hours in the gym or sacrificing all the food you enjoy. Sometimes, the simplest regimes turn out to be miraculous, and Keerthy Suresh’s fitness journey reassures that. For actors, staying in shape is even more crucial, especially as they have to transition into the characters they play. Fitness and films go hand in hand, and the ‘Mahanati’ actress has cracked the cheat code! Just like many of us, she didn't figure out everything from the start of her fitness journey.

In fact, she made some mistakes on the way, and eventually found out what works best for her body. Let’s take a look at Keerthy Suresh’s fitness journey.

The time when she 'lost a lot of weight'

Keerthy Suresh underwent a rapid weight loss around 2018-19. She lost around 9 kilos by only doing cardio. Talking to Behindwoods earlier, the ‘Mahanati’ actress revealed that she was naturally thin growing up, and didn't do much workout. “I was quite thin, and I never had any workout.

So till 18, in my entire life, I've not done workouts, not even sports. I used to play tennis when I was in school, but after I started acting, it was work, sleep, eat, repeat.

.. I'll tell you now, first what I did is, I did a lot of cardio. So I did a lot of cardio, and what happened is I lost a lot of muscle, and I became really thin," she said. “But in spite of doing a lot of cardio, I didn't gain too much fat also... I lost a lot of weight, then I thought maybe the gym is not working for me.

That was my wrong notion.”

No fancy diets, just basics

Keerthy Suresh isn't really a fan of extreme diets. She is indeed a South Indian soul, and enjoys authentic, flavorful food prepared at home. Even during her weight loss journey, she didn't jump on any fancy diet. The 'Mahanti' actor's diet plan was simple - high protein, low carb. “I've never done any diet till date, I've not done keto, I've not done any diet. It's only high-protein and low-carb, and I eat what I want.

So there is nothing that I can control over food. If I crave for something, I go for it because I should be able to eat anything that I want. I shouldn't get scared of seeing something and not eating it. So, I think this is the best point in my life, where I think I'm the healthiest.

.. I take a lot of egg whites in a day, almost six to seven egg whites; I take paneer, I take tofu, soya and pulses, and honestly, I don't even take a protein shake,” she revealed.

What worked for her?

For Keerthy Suresh, understanding what her body responded to the most worked. After losing around 9 kilos only by doing cardio exercises, Keerthy Suresh knew she wanted something sustainable. As she also lost muscle during that drastic weight loss journey, she wanted to focus on something healthy and sustainable. The answer was yoga and strength training. “During the pandemic, I started yoga, and I started getting better.

I felt much better. So I thought yoga is very nice and I'll stick to yoga. And eventually, I thought strength training was also very important. The last two years, I started strength training,” she revealed. Listening to your body is what matters. Many factors, such as your age, general health, underlying disease or conditions, body type, and lifestyle plays a crucial role in your fitness journey, so it's important to pick what’s best for you.

Most importantly, follow a sustainable routine, because fitness isn’t a sprint, it's a life-long marathon. Meanwhile, Keerthy Suresh will be next seen in 'Thottam'. Earlier this week, she announced the film with a title poster. She will be essaying the lead role along with actor Antony Varghese Pepe. The film is written and directed by Rishi Sivakumar. On the personal front, Keerthy Suresh celebrated her first wedding anniversary with husband Antony Thattil in December.
