YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra, who was arrested and sent to police custody on charges of spying for Pakistan, has pleaded innocence in the espionage case, according to reports.

Harish Malhotra, Jyoti’s father, visited her at Central Jail No. 2 in Hisar on the first day of her 14-day police custody. Speaking emotionally to the media, Harish said that Jyoti had proclaimed her innocence, according to a report by the Times of India.

Jyoti was sent to 14-day police custody in Haryana’s Hisar on Monday. It is to be noted that she was already under four-day police custody in Hisar that ended on Tuesday.

The 33-year-old YouTuber was arrested on suspicion of espionage, and police suspected that she was in touch with Pakistani intelligence operatives. Malhotra is accused of sharing sensitive information with Pakistan, including details about power blackouts in India during ‘Operation Sindoor’, sources told News18.

During her nine-day remand, SP Shashank Kumar Sawan said there was no evidence so far that suggested that the YouTuber had access to sensitive military, defence, or strategic information or that she was linked to any terrorist activity or organisation.

Jyoti Was In Touch With Pakistani Operatives

However, multiple reports suggested that Jyoti Malhotra was reportedly in direct contact with at least four Pakistani intelligence operatives, each with known roles, as confirmed by a forensic investigation.

According to a report by the Hindustan Times, the Pakistani operatives reportedly provided her with special treatment during her visit to Pakistan. Police further said she was fully aware of their positions, including involvement in intelligence, suggesting deliberate engagement on Malhotra’s part.

Malhotra’s four bank accounts have come under scrutiny, although no official comment has been made so far regarding her financial transactions. Hisar police had earlier dismissed reports of Jyoti’s marriage to any Pakistani operative or conversion to Islam.

Jyoti Malhotra was among the 12 people arrested from Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh over the past three weeks on suspicion of espionage, with investigators suspecting the presence of a Pakistan-linked spy network operating in northern India.

Police sources had said she was in touch with Ehsan-ur-Rahim alias Danish, a staffer at the Pakistani High Commission, since November 2023, and also during India’s ‘Operation Sindoor’. India expelled Danish on May 13 for allegedly indulging in espionage.
