For the 487 registered B.Tech candidates at IIT Hyderabad, 304 of them have secured a job in the phase 1 of the 2026 placement season, accounting for a placement rate of 62.42%. The average cost-to-company stands over ₹30 lakh per annum, according to information shared by the institute.
The placement season at IITH assumed virality last week after its student Edward Nathan Varghese reportedly secured the maximum international compensation package of ₹Rs 2.5 crore per annum. Officials said, in the domestic market, its two students secured job offers of Rs 1.1 crore each, and four other students received offers in the ₹Rs 75 lakh and ₹1 crore range. In all, 24 international offers were achieved across all departments.
Among the departments, students from Artificial Intelligence achieved an 83.33% placement rate, followed by Computer Science & Engineering at 83.05% and Mathematics & Computing at 77.78%. For these three departments, the average CTC was around ₹40 lakh per annum.
Core engineering branches such as Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, and Electrical Engineering also exhibited ‘strong and stable’ placement outcomes, it said.
IITH stated that the average CTC rose to over ₹Rs 30 lakh per annum as departments witnessed a steady increase in both average and median compensation, indicative of recruiter confidence in a competitive hiring environment.
The phase 2 of the placement drive commenced on Monday (January 5).
Separately, the institute informed that the B.Tech 2027 internship season saw 279 internship offers and 15 international internships, with stipends up to ₹7.5 lakh per month.
