 Top packages touch Rs 1.17 crore

Patna: As many as 19 students of the Indian Institute of Technology-Patna (IIT-P) have secured job offers from global software major Google in the ongoing 2026 placement season with at least two receiving annual packages of Rs 1.17 crore.

Four students have also landed international placements in Japan.Sharing details, IIT-P registrar A K Thakur said a total of 319 job offers have been secured so far from over 90 companies this year. Apart from Google, HCL Tech has made 27 full-time offers, BPCL 18 and BEL 10, while several other companies have extended offers in double digits.Thakur said IIT-P has shown consistent growth in placement and internship outcomes over the years.

“In the last four consecutive academic sessions, IIT Patna students have secured more than 400 job offers each year,” he said. In the recently concluded 2025 placement session, students received 582 job offers from over 215 companies, including PSUs, startups and multinational corporations.He said the institute has witnessed a steady upward trend in placements, reflected in the rising number of recruiters, higher job offers, improved average packages for BTech and MTech students, and greater diversity in job profiles.

Several academic programmes achieved 100% placements, while undergraduate programmes recorded placement rates of 91.06% in 2023, 90.03% in 2024 and 89.01% in 2025.Thakur further said Phase 1 of the 2026 placement season for BTech, BS and MTech programmes has been completed. “The recruitment process for the 2025–26 academic year is currently midway and progressing as scheduled, with the BTech placement rate at 54.34%,” he said, adding that Phase 2 would resume in mid-Jan 2026.IIT-P training and placement officer Kripa Shankar Singh said the average cost to company (CTC) for the BTech 2026 batch crossed Rs 26 lakh per annum during Phase 1, marking a 17.66% increase over the previous session. “The average CTC for the MTech 2026 batch exceeded Rs 16 lakh per annum, registering a rise of 7.32%,” he said, adding that several departments recorded gains in both average and median salary figures.The BTech computer science and engineering department reported the highest average package.Top recruiters this season included Google, BEL, BPCL, C-DOT, Samsung, Optum, L&T, Reliance, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Cisco, Goldman Sachs, Sprinklr, Media.net and Tata Advanced Systems, among others. The season also saw a surge in core and PSU hiring across manufacturing, infrastructure, energy and automobile sectors.
