Improved roads, new libraries inaugurated in the Nilgiris

The State Minister for Information and Publicity, M.P. Saminathan, visited the Nilgiris on Tuesday (December 16, 2025) to inaugurate the improved roads and newly constructed libraries in the district.

Mr. Saminathan and the chief whip of the State government and Coonoor MLA, K. Ramachandran, told reporters the road improved at the cost of ₹2.34 crore between Kattabettu and Iduhatty will ease connectivity for residents living in the hamlets along the stretch. The improvements were undertaken with funds from the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana Scheme.

The Minister also inaugurated new libraries constructed at a cost of ₹44 lakh in Thummanatty and Kakkuchi.

The Minister added that the Chief Minister had announced and implemented schemes for welfare of the public in the three Assembly Constituencies in the Nilgiris. “With these two initiatives, the development projects worth ₹2.78 crore have been opened for public use and the long-standing demand of the people in this area has been fulfilled,” he said.

The Nilgiris District Collector, Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru, was also present during the event.
