 Goa oppn leader Yuri Alemao

Porvorim: Opposition leader Yuri Alemao said that the rising crime graph is tarnishing Goa’s image. “What is going on in Goa is ‘jungle raj’. Murders and rapes in the last five years increased and the chief minister has no answer,” said Alemao on Wednesday. He said that govt remains focused on land conversion.“Criminals and murderers are coming to Goa because they know there is no deterrence and that they are safe here,” the opposition leader said. He cited the murder of 63-year-old Umakhant Khot at Pernem, who was allegedly killed because he objected to hill cutting on tenanted land.Alemao said that govt did little to uphold law and order in the state.“Today, the way drugs are being sold, we asked the chief minister about this.

Goa does not have Ram Rajya; it has jungle raj. He said that migrants are coming in and doing this. But it is shocking to see that locals are also involved. Murders over the last five years increased, and rapes increased in the last five years. The home department failed,” said the opposition leader.Alemao said that govt also repeatedly rebuffed attempts to discuss the major fire which broke out at the club named ‘Birch by Romeo Lane’ in Arpora.

“We attempted to speak on the Birch tragedy, but this govt keeps running away. This time, they postponed it to Friday. This shows the seriousness of govt. They don’t want to discuss the very important issue of Birch in the House,” said Alemao.
