Instagram rolls out reels linking feature, allowing creators to build episodic series

Instagram has introduced a new feature which will enable the creators to link multiple Reels together into a cohesive series, making it easier for audiences to follow connected content over time. The update is now rolling out globally and it is aimed at improving storytelling and boosting engagement on the platform. The Meta-owned platform confirmed that the creators can now organise Reels around a theme or narrative by linking them during the upload process or retroactively through the overflow menu. Once linked, the viewers will now see a ‘Net Reel’ button at the bottom left of the screen enabling seamless navigation via the series. This new feature rolled out by Meta will be useful for creators who post multi-part stories, tutorials or thematic content such as recipe collections, travel diaries, or episodic vlogs. Instead of asking followers to “come back for part 2,” creators can now guide them directly to the next instalment.

How the feature works

  • New Reels: Creators can tap “Link a reel” under the caption field, select a previously published Reel, and assign a title (up to 15 characters).
  • Existing Reels: Users can open a Reel, tap the menu icon, and choose to add or edit a linked Reel.
  • Editing: Linked Reels can be changed or unlinked at any time, and titles can be updated or removed.

Subscriber-only and close friends Reels are excluded from this feature.

Instagram says the linking feature was highly requested and is designed to support richer storytelling, increase watch time, and help convert casual viewers into followers. By making content easier to discover and follow, the platform hopes to encourage creators to build more structured and engaging series.
