An Iranian lawmaker has said that Tehran could “seize and sell" vessels in the Persian Gulf if the United States does not pay full war reparations, as tensions continue following the collapse of US–Iran talks in Pakistan.
Ali Khezrian, a member of Iran’s National Security Commission, said Iran would not allow what he called “enemy ships" to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. He made the remarks during an interview with Iranian state television.
Khezrian also shared his comments on X, posting a clip of the interview. In his post, he said that contrary to US claims, no ships from “hostile countries" had passed through the Strait of Hormuz so far.
“Contrary to the claims of the United States, none of the ships of the hostile countries have passed through the Strait of Hormuz so far," he wrote.
He added that, given wartime conditions and the fact that a strategic plan for managing the Strait has not yet been finalised in parliament, control of the waterway and the setting of any ship tolls fall under the responsibility of Iran’s armed forces general staff and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) navy.
