Amid ongoing efforts to end the US-Iran war, the Israeli military on Sunday launched strikes on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon capital, threatening to affect the negotiations.

Associated Press quoted the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu saying that the strikes were in response to Hezbollah attacks on the north of the country.

In a post on X, the Israeli Defence Forces said: “A Hezbollah command center in Dahieh, Beirut, following their launch of aerial targets toward Israel. The command center was used by Hezbollah terrorists to advance terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians & IDF soldiers operating in southern Lebanon. Prior to the strikes, steps were taken to mitigate harm to civilians."

Earlier in the day, the military released a footage and said that Hezbollah launched three projectiles into northern Israel.

AP reported that a five-story apartment building with shops was struck. The two lower floors were the most heavily damaged by the strikes. However, there were no reports of any casualties.

This comes amid reports that the US and Iran are moving closer to a framework agreement aimed at ending months of conflict and restoring maritime traffic through one of the world’s most important energy transit routes. The deal may get signed by Sunday.

Meanwhile, Reuters quoted Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said that no signing would take place on Sunday, though he indicated that an agreement could still be reached “in the coming days".

“The Zionists’ aggression against Dahieh once again showed that the United States either lacks the will to implement its commitments or lacks the ability to do so," Ghalibaf said in a post on X.

“If you do not have the will or the ability to fulfil your commitments, then there is no point in talking about continuing down this path," he added, against the backdrop of ongoing efforts to finalise a peace deal between the warring parties.

A fragile ceasefire has been in place since early April, following weeks of conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel.

The US plans to lift sanctions on Iran simultaneously with the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, while efforts to clear mines from the strategic waterway will be addressed at a later stage, according to a US official cited by Fox News.

The Strait of Hormuz is a critical global shipping route and has been at the centre of tensions during the conflict.
