Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori of Italy secured a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Americans Taylor Townsend and Evan King on Court Philippe Chatrier, winning the French Open mixed doubles title on Thursday.

This marks Errani and Vavassori’s second mixed doubles Grand Slam title, their first being at the U.S. Open last year where they also defeated Townsend and her former partner, Donald Young.

For Errani, this title represents her seventh overall in Grand Slam doubles, having also won five women’s doubles Grand Slam titles.

“Congratulations to Evan and Taylor, it was tough playing against you. We had to study a lot," said Errani, who is also competing in the women’s doubles semi-finals alongside Jasmine Paolini on Friday. “Thanks to Andrea, my best friend. Playing with you is so much fun. You’re an amazing person, and it’s so special to be here with you."

The Italian pair faced an early challenge in the first set but saved two breakpoints to hold at 1-1. They then secured a decisive break, taking a 4-3 lead when Townsend sent a forehand wide.

Errani and Vavassori increased their intensity, breaking serve twice in the second set before Townsend netted a volley, giving the third seeds a dominant win.

“It’s unbelievable to be in another Grand Slam final together," said Vavassori, who redeemed himself after losing the French Open men’s doubles final last year. “We had an amazing run at the U.S. Open, which was a dream come true, and we love playing together."

The American pair struggled throughout the match, accumulating 25 unforced errors, nearly three times as many as Errani and Vavassori’s nine.

“Thank you for cheering us on and supporting us this week. We’re aiming for Wimbledon next," said Townsend, who teamed up with King ahead of the French Open. Townsend’s previous partner, Young, retired from tennis after their U.S. Open loss last year to pursue pickleball.
