Jamshedpur: Followers of Islam observed the 1500th birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammed with religious pomp and gaiety on Friday. Celebrated as Eid-Milad-un-Nabi, the festival's main attraction was a large procession in the city, which witnessed a significant turnout of the faithful.Named Julus-e-Mohammadi, the sacred procession commenced from Gandhi Maidan in Mango and concluded at Dhatkidih Centre Ground in Bistupur, following a stoppage at Aam Bagan Ground in Sakchi.Clad in new clothes, predominantly traditional pajama kurta and square cotton scarf on the head, scores of devotees moved with the procession, riding bikes, cars and mini trucks on a 12-km journey.Well-decorated welcome gates erected at the intersections by socio-religious groups of the community received the procession crowd as it passed through. A variety of stalls lining the procession route, particularly at the welcome gates, served water, sherbat, soft drinks, ice cream, biscuits, chocolates and sweet pulao to the crowd.Meanwhile, elaborate security arrangements were implemented by the district administration to ensure the peaceful observance of the festival. Additionally, traffic regulations were imposed on the procession route.
