The Forest and Revenue Department officials will begin a joint survey to identify mangrove forest cover along the banks of the river Godavari in Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Konaseema District. The survey aims at identifying the mangrove forest cover outside the reserve forest and the forest department.

Responding to a directive by the State government, District Collector R. Mahesh Kumar on Tuesday directed the officials to complete the joint survey by June 10.

District forest officer M.V. Prasada Rao has claimed that the mangrove cover spreading over 4,000 hectares is out of the reserve forests in the district and is not under the purview of the forest department.

The forest department is likely to come up with an action plan for conservation of the mangroves out of the reserve forests, he added.
