Jon Anik plays down Conor McGregor vs Michael Chandler idea for UFC White House card

Because of the scale of the event, expectations are very high among fight fans.However, not everyone is excited about the idea of McGregor facing Chandler. UFC commentator Jon Anik feels that this matchup does not add much value to the division. While he agrees that both fighters deserve a spot on such a historic card, he believes they should fight different opponents.

His comments have added more debate around McGregor’s future and the direction of the White House event.

Speaking on the JAXXON Podcast, Jon Anik explained why a Conor McGregor vs Michael Chandler fight does not interest him. He said the matchup does not excite him at all. Anik made it clear that he still wants to see McGregor return to the octagon. He also praised Chandler for representing the United States and felt Chandler should be part of the White House card.

Still, Anik stressed that this specific fight does not matter much to him in terms of the lightweight division.Anik also suggested that the fight would likely not even happen at lightweight. He believes it would probably take place at welterweight. Because of that, he feels the bout would not have real impact on rankings or future title plans. He added that he would rather see McGregor face someone else. In his view, a fight against Nate Diaz or a rising name like Mauricio Ruffy would be more interesting and meaningful.Meanwhile, Chael Sonnen has gone even further with his opinion. Sonnen recently said he does not believe McGregor will ever fight again. In a video on his YouTube channel, Sonnen explained that he feels McGregor effectively retired when he decided not to fight Chandler. Sonnen said that pulling out of the fight and the press events felt the same as retirement to him. He added that this opinion has not changed over time.Despite this, Sonnen admitted McGregor is still the biggest star in the sport. He pointed out that McGregor does not currently have a license and has not competed in years.
