The State government is considering a proposal to mandate child care centres in both public and private sector establishments that employ more than 50 people, Minister for Labour, Women and Child Development, Animal Husbandry, and Dairy Development Bindhu Krishna said here on Saturday.

The Minister was speaking at the State-level inauguration of anganwadi praveshanotsavam at the C. Kesavan Memorial Town Hall here. She added that the honorarium for anganwadi workers has been increased, and steps will be taken to upgrade basic infrastructure and resolve concerns regarding the food menu at anganwadis.

During the event, the Minister launched several new initiatives introduced by the Women and Child Development department. This included the distribution of the ‘Kunjoos’ card, convocation certificates for children completing their anganwadi education, and welcome kits for newly enrolled children. The function was presided over by Kollam Deputy Mayor Udaya Sukumaran. District panchayat president R. Lathadevi, Corporation standing committee chairpersons Vinsi Baiju and M.S. Gopakumar, Women and Child Development department principal secretary Sharmila Mary Joseph and additional director Bindu Gopinath were also present.
