Kerala’s Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan has threatened to expose some “shocking things” involving the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] in Kerala in the coming days.

Addressing the media in Kozhikode on Tuesday (August 26, 2025), Mr. Satheesan said the ruling party “should not go too far in their protests” against Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil, who was recently suspended from the Congress party following allegations of sexual misconduct.

“Many more things are going to come out in the open soon. Kerala will be shocked to hear them. You can consider this as a threat… We need not wait till the elections for this exposé,” said Mr. Satheesan.

Message to BJP

He also took on the BJP, which recently staged a protest outside Mr. Satheesan’s residence exhibiting a bull. “I have a suggestion to the BJP. They should not let that bull go. In the next few days, they will have to take out another procession to party State president Rajeev Chandrasekhar’s house with a bull. Wait for some time,” he said.

The Congress leader said the chapter involving Mr. Mamkootathil had been “closed”.

Mr. Satheesan alleged that the CPI(M) was trying to cover up the allegations of illegal financial dealings involving their leaders, including some Ministers, by targeting Mr. Mamkootathil. He claimed that the ruling party failed to respond to the “grave allegations” raised by a businessman against CPI(M) State secretary M.V. Govindan’s son.

“The CPI(M) should first ask its MLA who is an accused in a rape case to relinquish his post. There are Ministers accused of sexual misconduct in the State Cabinet. The party should first ask those people to quit. Even some of the staff in the Chief Minister’s Office are facing such allegations,” Mr. Satheesan added.

Mr. Satheesan said he had not been invited to the Ayyappa devotees’ meet organised by the Kerala government, describing the event “an attempt to pander to majoritarian communalism.”
