One drowns, another missing in Achencoil river

A Class IX student died after being swept away in the Achencoil river on Monday (August 25, 2025), while another remains missing. The body of Ajzal Aji, a native of Anchakkal, was recovered. A search was under way for Nabeel Nizam from Konnamoodu, Pathanamthitta, who went missing in the waterbody, till late in the evening.

The incident took place around 1 p.m. near Kallarakadavu, shortly after the boys returned after their Onam examinations. According to Fire and Rescue Services officials, the two had climbed atop a check-dam when one of them slipped and fell into the river. The other jumped in, attempting to rescue his friend, but was also caught in the strong currents.

The area where the accident occurred is known for its deep waters and strong currents and water level in the river currently remains at a high level.
