A little over 4.8 lakh applications have so far been filed for fresh enrolment in electoral roll after the Election Commission of India (EC) published the draft roll on December 23 last year in connection with the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
In all, 4,11,578 Form 6 applications and 76,239 Form 6A applications have been filed till Saturday since December 23, according to an update issued by the office of Chief Electoral Officer (Kerala) Rathan U. Kelkar.
Form 6 is for enrolment of new voters, while Form 6A applies to the overseas electors among Indian citizens. In all, 3,72,383 Form 6 applications and 32,925 Form 6A applications had been filed prior to the publication of the draft roll.
Apart from Form 6 and Form 6A applications, the EC has also received 4,664 Form 7 applications. The latter pertains to objections against the inclusion or deletion of names in the voter roll.
The draft electoral roll under SIR published on December 23 contained a little over 2.54 crore voters. This included 1.30 crore female voters, 1.23 crore male voters, and 280 transgender voters. As many as 24.08 lakh names stood deleted in the draft roll, while 19.32 lakh names, though included in the roll, were in the ‘unmapped’ list, meaning they could not be linked to the 2002 SIR roll, which is being used as the base list for the present exercise.
