The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has clarified that its fare rounding-off practice was limited to about 400 premium buses and will soon be discontinued, following public complaints over discrepancies in ticket fares.

Passengers had raised concerns after noticing inconsistencies between the printed ticket fare and the amount collected, particularly on premium services like Rajahamsa, Airavat, Vaibhav, and EV Power Plus.

In a statement issued on Friday (July 4, 2025), KSRTC said the rounding-off was done only at Electronic Ticketing Machines (ETMs) and Awatar booking counters since the year 2016.

“For instance, fares between ₹101 and ₹105 were rounded down to ₹100, while fares between ₹106 and ₹109 were rounded up to ₹110,” the corporation said.

“With digital payment modes like UPI now widely available, the rounding-off system is being scrapped. Software modifications are currently underway,” the release added.

A senior KSRTC official said, “The rounding mechanism was introduced for convenience when digital change was limited. Now that UPI is active in almost all buses, we are eliminating this system to ensure fare transparency.”
