Actress and producer Lizy K Fernandez may be just two films old as a filmmaker, but her journey with art started long before cinema. She was a writer and producer of hundreds of Christian devotional songs even before she entered films.
Lizy produces movies under the banner CN Global Movies. She believes more in content than noise.Speaking about her approach, she tells to TOI City, “We do films out of passion for the art form. We don’t have the facilities to hype our films. My hope lies in how the audience receives them, and so far, we have been lucky on that front.”
'Swargam' and the first step
Talking about her debut as a producer and actor, Lizy shared details about Swargam. She says, “Swargam was a family film that explored the contrast between two families from different backgrounds.
The story was written by me. A few of us expatriates came together to make it.”The film received love from viewers. She adds, “We received great feedback and support for the film. The songs are still hits even now.” For Lizy, Swargam remains special because it was made with belief and teamwork, not big setups.
'Aghosham' and campus vibe
Lizy’s second film as a producer was 'Aghosham'. She explains the idea behind it and says, “It’s a film about how life itself is a celebration, with a strong story set in a campus background.”
One song from the film became very popular. She says, “Bethlehemile, a song from the film, has become viral. Perhaps people don’t even realise it’s from this film.” She also talks about another song and says, “There is another campus song, sung by MG Sreekumar, as well.
” Praising the director, she adds, “Director Amal K Joby did a great job with the film.”

Acting, lyrics, and staying true
Lizy also spoke about how she began acting. She says, “It started with a documentary on Alphonsamma.
I was always at the forefront during competitions in my school and college days. Art has always been a part of me.” She has acted in both her films. “In Swargam, I played the role of Aju Varghese’s mother, and in Aghosham, I played the principal. Even if the role is small, I want it to be neat,” she says.

As a lyricist, Lizy mostly writes devotional songs. She says, “Ninety-nine percent of what I have written are devotional songs. Bethlehemile was also written by me.” She also shares an honest thought and says, “Lyricists are often overlooked in favour of music directors.” Giving an example, she adds, “Take Minnalvala from ARM, for instance. It became a hit only when Jakes Bejoy’s music came together with Kaithapram (Damodaran Namboothiri)’s lyrics.
