Maharashtra Cabinet approves 15,000 Police posts

The Maharashtra Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, on Tuesday (August 12, 2025) gave nod to the recruitment of 15,000 personnel in the State police force, as part of a 150-day programme aimed at restructuring the law enforcement department.

The recruitment process will include Optical Mark Recognition (OMR)-based written exams. In a one-time exemption, candidates who exceeded the prescribed age limit in 2022 and 2023 will be allowed to apply.

The decision comes after Mr. Fadnavis’s announcement during the Monsoon Session of Maharashtra Assembly, where he mentioned of the proposal for filling 13,560 police posts in addition to the 38,802 police personnel already recruited between 2022 and 2025.

Key decisions

The State cabinet approved four decisions including increase in the margins of ration shopkeepers and providing grant of ₹17.97 crore as Viability Gap Fund (VGF) for one year for the Solapur-Pune-Mumbai air route.

Minister of Food and Civil Supplies Chhagan Bhujbal said, “The margin rate to the fair price shopkeepers for distribution of food grains in the State has increased by ₹20 per quintal, putting financial burden of ₹92.71 crore on the government.”

The Cabinet has approved a subsidy of ₹3,240 per seat for the Solapur-Pune-Mumbai flight route under the VGF scheme and also relaxed the guarantor conditions for loan schemes and extended the government guarantee period by five years.
