Microsoft Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella introduced MahaCrimeOS, an artificial intelligence-powered platform to accelerate police investigation in cybercrime, while speaking at the AI Tour at Mumbai on December 12.
The tool was developed in collaboration with the Maharashtra Government’s special purpose vehicle MARVEL. “The AI tool will increase the efficiency of policing and reduce the turnaround time of investigation by 80%,” the Microsoft team said while speaking at the event.

“MahaCrimeOS AI is designed to augment officers with AI tools so they can resolve cases faster and more efficiently, combining human expertise with responsible innovation,” Microsoft said in its statement.
“The platform enables instant case creation, multilingual data extraction, and contextual legal assistance—reducing manual effort and allowing officers to focus on solving complex cybercrimes. With built-in access to India’s criminal laws through integrated AI RAG and open-source intelligence, MahaCrimeOS AI helps investigators link cases, analyse digital evidence, and respond to threats faster and more effectively,” Microsoft explained in its statement.

The tool was initially introduced at 23 police stations in Nagpur. Acknowledging the efforts needed to reduce the incidence of cybercrime, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis proposed that the usage of this tool be expanded to 1,100 police stations across the State. “Our collaboration with Microsoft began with solving complex cybercrime challenges, but its potential is far greater,” Mr. Fadnavis said.
