Man Arrested For Killing 27-Year-Old Woman Over Marriage Rejection In Greater Noida

Deepa from Mahoba was found dead under a car in Greater Noida. Police arrested Ankit Kumar after an encounter. He confessed to killing her after she rejected his proposal.

The accused was arrested after an encounter with police teams near the Dhakiya Wale Baba roundabout in Uttar Pradesh.

Police have arrested a man for allegedly killing a 27-year-old woman who was found dead under a car parked near a park in the Beta-2 sector of Greater Noida, police said.

Police said the woman, identified as Deepa, originally from Uttar Pradesh’s Mahoba district, lived n a rented flat in Beta-2 with her younger brother and worked at a private call centre in Noida’s Sector 60.

They said Deepa had left for work on Sunday but she did not return. Her brother approached the police after her mobile phone remained switched off throughout the night.

Her body was found by locals on Monday morning under a parked vehicle who alerted the police. The body was then sent for post-mortem examination.

On the basis of a complaint, a case of murder was registered at the Beta-2 police station.

On Tuesday, police arrested a man, Ankit Kumar, after an investigation revealed his role.

PTI quoted Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Greater Noida) Sudhir Kumar saying Ankit was arrested after an encounter with police teams near the Dhakiya Wale Baba roundabout.

“The accused opened fire at the police team with the intention to kill when we tried to stop him. In retaliatory firing in self-defence, he was injured and subsequently arrested," he added.

PTI quoted police saying the arrested accused told the police during interrogation that he was acquainted with the woman and was in love with her.

“When she refused his proposal, he strangled her to death on the night of January 11 and attempted to make it appear as an accident by placing the body under a parked car," the police said.

They added that a stolen motorcycle, the woman’s mobile phone, a country-made pistol, one used cartridge and two live cartridges were recovered from the accused.
