Nandyal district court on Tuesday (September 16, 2025) sentenced a person to seven years imprisonment for harassing his wife for additional dowry and abetting her suicide.
According to police, Rajeswari of Chintalayapalli in Kolimigundla mandal was married to K. Krishnaiah of Chagallu in Anantapur district. After 12 years of marriage, Krishnaiah and his uncle Narayana started physically and mentally harassing Rajeswari for additional dowry. On March 4, 2022, the woman came to her father’s home and ended her life by consuming hair dye. She died the same day and a case was registered.
Nandyal Principal Assistant Sessions Judge Thangamani convicted Krishnaiah under the charges of dowry harassment and abetment to suicide and sentenced him to concurrent imprisonment of three years and seven years respectively, with a penalty of ₹4,000.
