Man killed in tiger attack in Wayanad

A 65-year-old resident of a tribal settlement in Wayanad was killed in a tiger attack on Saturday. According to local sources, the deceased is Maran, alias Kooman, a resident of the Devargaddha Madappally tribal settlement under the Vandikkadavu forest station limits. He had gone to the forest to collect firewood with his sister when the tiger attacked Maran near the Kannarampuzha river that flows close to the Kerala-Karnataka border. The animal then dragged him into the forest. Forest officials were soon alerted and a search operation was launched. Maran was found with fatal injuries on his body around 2.30 p.m. The incident led the local residents to stage a protest seeking action against recurring instances of wild animal attacks.
