A man attempted suicide after he allegedly killed his wife by slitting her throat in Rajasthan's Balotra district while she was visiting her parents' house with the couple's children. The incident took place on Saturday, May 23. While the woman died on the spot, her husband is said to be in a critical condition.

The deceased has been identified as 30-year-old Kanta, who had arrived at her parental home along with her 14-year-old daughter and 10-year-old son to spend their summer holidays there.

On Saturday, her husband, Nitesh Kumar (32) also arrived there. According to reports, the man, shortly after reaching his in-laws' house, called his wife to a nearby lane to talk. After Kanta reached the spot, Nitesh allegedly slit her throat using a knife. He then inflicted stab wounds on himself.

While Kanta died on the spot, Nitesh was severely wounded. The horrifying episode unfolded in the afternoon. According to the police, while bleeding profusely, Nitesh went to the village square and sat in front of a shop with the knife in his hand.

The locals immediately informed the police, who rushed him to a nearby hospital. Nitesh was subsequently rushed to a local hospital, before eventually being referred to a larger hospital in Jodhpur due to his critical condition.

According to the police, the couple likely had an argument that escalated to the point where Nitesh attacked Kanta at the spot. Efforts are underway to determine the exact cause of the dispute between them, local Station House Officer (SHO) Chandra Singh said.
