Many places in the districts of West Godavari, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema, Kakinada, Prakasam, Anakapalli and Eluru received light to moderate rains on September 16, Tuesday.
The day’s highest of 70 mm was recorded in Bhimavaram in West Godavari district, followed by 66.5 mm in Malikipuram and 64 mm in P. Gannavaram of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district, according to information from the Directorate of Economics and Statistics that provides realtime rainfall data.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Amaravati, had issued an orange alert for the districts of Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam, Alluri Sitharama Raju, Anakapalli, Kakinada, East Godavari and Eluru earlier in the day. A red alert was issued for Vizianagaram. But as of 7.30 p.m., not much rainfall activity was reported in the district, according to information.
Heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places across the three regions of North and South Coastal Andhra Pradesh on September 17, Wednesday. Thereafter, light to moderate showers are expected across the State until September 23.
The weather condition in the State is being influenced by a north-south trough runs from South interior Karnataka to Comorin area across Tamil Nadu at 0.9 km above mean sea level. Lower tropospheric south westerly winds are also likely to prevail over Andhra Pradesh and Yanam.
