Many places in the Central, Rayalaseema, and South Coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh received light to moderate showers on November 5 (Wednesday) under the influence of a low pressure running from southwest Bay of Bengal to north Kerala across Tamil Nadu at 5.8 km above the mean sea level.

In Vijayawada, which recorded 40 mm rainfall in less than an hour, the stretch on the Mahatma Gandhi Road (MG Road) between Auto Nagar and Patamata was filled with a sheet of water, making it difficult for motorcyclists to navigate.

As the morning was partly sunny, many commuters were caught unawares due to the sudden rain.

As per the realtime rainfall data from the A.P. State Development and Planning Society (APSDPS), the day’s maximum rainfall recorded between 8.30 a.m. and 4 p.m. was in B. Cherlopalli of Prakasam district that registered 65.5 mm rainfall. It was followed by Gandlapenta of Sri Sathya Sai district (45 mm), Kandaleru Reservoir in SPSR Nellore district (40.5 mm), and Vijayawada East (39 mm).

Other places in the districts of YSR Kadapa, West Godavari, Tirupati, Anantapur received light showers, below 35 mm.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Amaravati, while there may not be any rainfall activity in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh, people can expect light to moderate showers at a few places on November 6 and 7 in South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema. Thunderstorms and lightning are also likely in the two regions for the next two days.

From November 9, dry weather is likely to continue in North Coastal areas. In South Coastal parts and Rayalaseema, light showers are likely in one or two places until November 12.

The A.P. State Disaster Management Authority has cautioned people to not take shelter under trees as thunderstorms are likely in many places on November 6. Light to moderate rains are likely in the districts of Krishna, Prakasam, SPSR Nellore, Anantapur, Sri Sathya Sai, YSR Kadapa, Annamayya, Chittoor and Tirupati, according to a bulletin.
