A 20-year-old woman, identified as Manya Patil, died after being assaulted following a marriage dispute, in Inam Veerapur village in Karnataka’s Dharwad district, police said on Monday. The incident took place at around 6.30 pm, according to Dharwad Superintendent of Police Gunjan Arya. Manya was seriously injured during the attack and later succumbed to her injuries.

Police said Manya was allegedly assaulted by three people. During the attack, she was struck with a pipe, which caused serious injuries. Apart from Manya, three other members of her family were also injured. These include her mother-in-law, father-in-law and a sister. All the injured were taken for medical treatment.

SP Gunjan Arya said the police are still enquiring into the matter and gathering details from witnesses and those involved. He added that the exact sequence of events is being carefully examined.

Accused arrested

Police have arrested three accused in connection with the case. They have been identified as Prakash, Veeran and Arun. The arrests were made soon after the incident, and the accused are currently in police custody. Authorities said further questioning is underway to understand the motive behind the assault and the roles played by each accused.

According to the police, the incident appears to be linked to a dispute that began during a marriage event. SP Arya said there had been some fight during the wedding, but no major complaints or reports of violence were made at that time. It is believed that the earlier disagreement later escalated into the fatal assault.

Investigation on

Police have said the investigation is ongoing and more evidence will be collected to conclude the case. Statements from family members, neighbours and other witnesses are being recorded. Forensic evidence is also being examined as part of the probe.

Authorities said strict action would be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
