West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Monday held the second edition of his weekly ‘Janata Darbar’, drawing hundreds of citizens, job seekers, teachers and professionals to the BJP state office in Salt Lake to present grievances directly to the newly elected chief minister as reported by PTI.

Long queues formed outside the party office from early morning, with people carrying petitions, recruitment documents and memoranda in the hope of getting an audience with Adhikari. Many had travelled from districts and remote parts of the state.

The initiative, launched after Adhikari assumed office on May 9, is aimed at creating direct engagement between citizens and the chief minister. The first public hearing was held on May 18.

As Adhikari arrived at the venue around 10 am, supporters raised slogans of “Jai Shri Ram," “Bharat Mata Ki Jai," and “Vande Mataram."

The crowd reflected a broad range of concerns across the state. Representatives from teachers’ groups, Group D job aspirants, nurses, women police recruitment candidates, part-time teachers and victims of alleged poll violence were among those seeking intervention.

Employment and recruitment-related grievances dominated the proceedings.

Delegates representing around 26,000 school job aspirants who lost employment appealed for restoration of jobs based on merit. Others raised concerns over stalled recruitment processes, service conditions and appointments in technical education institutions.

According to party sources, around 100 individuals and delegations managed to meet the chief minister inside the office and submit complaints.

One of the most emotional moments came when 81-year-old Kolkata resident Prabir Mukhopadhyay met Adhikari regarding an alleged land-for-flat dispute involving arrested businessman Biswajit Poddar, also known as “Sona Pappu," and a real estate promoter.

Mukhopadhyay claimed he had given ancestral land for a housing project but never received the promised flat after construction was completed.

After meeting Adhikari, the elderly petitioner said he felt reassured.

“I am relieved. He assured me that my issue would be looked into," Mukhopadhyay said.

Representatives from the West Bengal Women Police Jobseekers Sangrami Manch also sought intervention over alleged irregularities in recruitment criteria.

The turnout exceeded the venue’s capacity, leaving many unable to enter despite waiting for hours. Security personnel struggled to manage the crowds as more people continued arriving through the day.

Adhikari had earlier announced that citizens would be able to meet him directly every Monday morning under the weekly programme.

The ‘Janata Darbar’ is emerging as one of the BJP government’s first major public outreach initiatives after coming to power in West Bengal, with the party presenting the exercise as a mechanism for quicker grievance redressal and greater accessibility.

Adhikari later left for the state secretariat, Nabanna, for official engagements, while several citizens remained outside hoping their petitions would still reach the chief minister’s office.
