Minister urges farmers to adopt scientific farming

In a spirited address in Mumbai, Agriculture Minister Ram Kripal Yadav advocated for a 'Lab for Land' initiative, calling on farmers to integrate science and innovation into their agricultural practices. He emphasized the vital need to blend rigorous research with the hands-on experiences of farmers to cultivate a robust agricultural future.

Patna: Agriculture minister Ram Kripal Yadav emphasised in Mumbai on Friday the need for adopting scientific farming, highlighting recent research and innovations in the agriculture sector.

He coined the slogan “Lab for land” to promote the concept among farmers.Addressing the ‘Kisan Samvad’ function organised by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and the Cotton Research Institute, Yadav said, “Today’s dialogue on scientific farming is a powerful medium to expand the ‘lab for land’ concept and make it accessible to farmers.”He added, “Linking scientific research and innovations with the practical knowledge of farmers themselves is crucial to make agriculture more viable.”Citing Bihar’s agricultural landscape, he noted that 76% of the state’s population depends on agriculture, contributing 21% to the state’s GSDP, making the sector the foundation of Bihar’s economic growth. “With this vision, the govt has launched the state’s agriculture roadmap, guiding planning and implementation of farming activities,” the minister said.He further highlighted that the agriculture sector is now being linked to markets to increase farmers’ incomes. Regarding cotton farming, he said that its adoption under the crop diversification programme could reduce risk and provide higher returns for farmers.
