Mizoram braces for cold wave; Khawzawl records 3.4°C

Aizawl: The IMD has forecast extreme cold wave conditions in Aizawl and other parts of Mizoram from Tuesday to Saturday.The IMD Meteorological Centre in Aizawl on Monday said minimum temperatures in the state capital and some areas could drop to 4-6 degrees Celsius.

However, director of IMD, Aizawl Sudheer Kumar Dwivedi, told TOI on Tuesday that they are expecting improvement in temperatures.IMD records show Aizawl’s minimum temperature fell to 7.2 degrees Celsius on Jan 4 from 9.2 degrees Celsius a day earlier, and was 7.3 degrees Celsius on Monday. On Tuesday, the minimum rose to 9 degrees Celsius, with the maximum at 19.2 degrees Celsius.The IMD forecast for Wednesday and Thursday puts Aizawl’s maximum at 21 degrees Celsius and minimum at 9 degrees Celsius.Khawzawl, in northeast Mizoram, was the coldest among the state’s 11 districts, recording a minimum of 3.4 degrees Celsius on Tuesday and 4.1 degrees Celsius on Monday. The maximum was 25.4 degrees Celsius on both days. The IMD forecast for Khawzawl on Wednesday and Thursday is a minimum of 4 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 25 degrees Celsius.Hnahthial district in south Mizoram recorded a minimum of 6.6 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. The IMD forecast for Wednesday and Thursday is a minimum of 7 degrees Celsius.
