In a shocking incident from Jamui, Bihar, a woman has been forcibly married to her husband’s friend by villagers who mistook their interactions as a love affair.

Malti Devi, a mother of six, was living alone in Chhedlahi village within the Gidhaur police station area in Jamui, while her husband, Rohit Tanti, worked as a labourer in Delhi. Whenever Malti required assistance, Tanti would send his friend Rahul Sharma, who had returned from Delhi, to help her.

The villagers, however, perceived this regular help as an illicit relationship and forced the pair into marriage. A video has surfaced showing villagers using sticks and rods to coerce Sharma into marrying Malti.

Sharma clarified that he had gone to Malti’s house to assist with land-related paperwork on the advice of his friend Tanti, which the villagers misinterpreted.

Sharma’s wife, Kareena Sharma, has refused to accept this forced marriage and has lodged a complaint with the Superintendent of Police.
