Nayana Motamma, Mudigere MLA, has expressed her disappointment over comments made on social media about her posts on her personal life.
Speaking to the press in Chikkamagaluru on January 12, the Congress MLA said that she had two accounts on social media. While one was meant to share updates on her political activities, the other was for posts related to her personal life. “There are hardly any comments on my political account. However, there has been an increase in interest among the public about the other account, which I have not kept private. The moment I post some pictures of my family, a vacation, or a festival celebration, people post comments targeting my dress, with some even going to the extent of terming me an ‘Instagram MLA’,” she said.
Referring to recent incidents of some persons posting objectionable comments on cine actresses online, Ms. Motamma said, “Women become easy targets. They hardly enter politics; there are only 11 women MLAs in the State. The people need to appreciate the politicians who want to be transparent and connect with them. The younger generation should decide what kind of representatives they want,” she stated.
Following an objectionable comment made against her on social media, Ms. Motamma’s personal assistant had filed a complaint with the Mudigere police in September 2025. The police arrested Yakshit Raj, a resident of Ramanagara, in connection with the case.
Jitendra Kumar Dayama, Chikkamagaluru Superintendent of Police, told The Hindu that the police arrested the accused. However, he got bail. “The police conducted the investigation and also filed a chargesheet. The case is now in the trial stage,” he added.
