After nearly three years of delay, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections are finally set to take place in Mumbai.The State Election Commission has formally announced the election timetable, voting hours, and result dates ahead of the civic polls scheduled for this week.

Election schedule
The official poll process began with the notification of elections in December 2025. The State Election Commission (SEC) announced on December 15, 2025, that the elections for 29 municipal corporations in Maharashtra, including the BMC, will be held in a single phase on January 15, 2026, with voting taking place between 7.30 am and 5.30 pm across polling stations in Greater Mumbai. The results will be published on January 16, 2025.
Some of the key dates are as follows:
- The nomination process began on December 23, 2025, and candidates were allowed to make their submissions until December 30,2025
- The last date of withdrawal of nominations was on January 2, 2026
- The final list of candidates was published on January 3, 2026
- BMC polling dates scheduled on January 15, 2026
- Vote counting date will be on January 16, 2026

Voting time and turnout
Voters are advised to visit their assigned centres during the designated hours. The Maharashtra SEC has also declared 15 January a public holiday in the municipal corporation areas to facilitate voter participation
This election is being held under the Model Code of Conduct and follows directives from higher judicial authorities to complete pending local body polls in Maharashtra. According to PTI reports, more than 1.03 crore voters are eligible to cast their ballots in the BMC elections across all 227 wards.
