The 8th Additional District Judge’s court in Nellore sentenced a 35-year-old man to twenty years in jail for murdering his wife. The incident took place in Jangalagunta of Sullurpeta mandal in the then SPSR Nellore district (currently the mandal is in Tirupati district) on February 28, 2017.
The convict, Puli Muniswamy, an alcoholic, used to physically and mentally torment his wife Puli Mounica. On the fateful day, Munuswamy picked up a quarrel with his wife in an inebriated state and, in a fit of rage, doused her with kerosene and set her ablaze. She succumbed to her injuries in a hospital on March 4.
The trial continued for eight years, and the court pronounced its verdict on Friday, sentencing the man to 20-years imprisonment, besides a fine of ₹2,000.
