Ben Simmons’ free agency has turned into one of the more confusing sagas of the NBA offseason. With training camp inching closer, conflicting reports have circulated about whether the New York Knicks offered the three-time All-Star a deal.

A recent update from SNY’s Ian Begley, however, clears the air as he shared that no formal offer has been made despite earlier claims suggesting Simmons turned down a one-year contract.

New York Knicks’ interest in Ben Simmons sparks conflicting reports

Earlier this summer, veteran insider Marc Stein reported that Simmons had “passed on” a one-year veteran minimum deal from the Knicks. The story caught fire, especially with Simmons’ name already drawing attention after his buyout from the Brooklyn Nets and brief stint with the Los Angeles Clippers.

But Begley, citing league sources, disputed Stein’s account, explaining that while New York had interest, “the Knicks never offered Ben Simmons a contract… They had interest but never made a formal offer.

New York currently has one roster spot left to fill and limited flexibility under the second-apron threshold. With that, Simmons was viewed as a potential low-risk signing, someone who could add size and secondary playmaking off the bench.

The Knicks have also explored other options, including a reunion with Landry Shamet or pursuing Malcolm Brogdon.Last season, Simmons averaged 5.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 5.6 assists across 51 appearances split between Brooklyn and Los Angeles. At times, he flashed his defensive versatility, but recurring injuries and inconsistent play continue to cloud his value on the market.

Ben Simmons’ uncertain NBA future remains in spotlight

The Knicks’ denial of a formal offer clearly shows the precarious state of Simmons’ career.

Once considered the face of Philadelphia’s future, the 2016 No. 1 overall pick has seen his trajectory derailed by back injuries and ongoing questions about his mental approach to the game. Despite being a three-time All-Star, Rookie of the Year, and two-time All-Defensive First Team selection, Simmons’ last few seasons have been marked by setbacks.Reports have even hinted at Simmons weighing retirement. Stefan Bondy of the New York Post noted that the 29-year-old is “sending a message that he isn’t sure if he wants to continue.” That possibility looms as Boston, once linked to Simmons, has since addressed its depth with Chris Boucher, while the Clippers and Nets moved on.Also Read: “I really need to have that…” – Stephen Curry’s mom Sonya Curry revealed one thing she can’t live withoutFor now, Simmons remains a free agent with limited options.
