Bengaluru’s Yellow Line Metro is set to get a service upgrade with the addition of a seventh train, a move expected to cut waiting times and ease crowding during peak hours. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited plans to roll out the extra train from January 15, bringing relief to thousands of commuters who depend on the line every day.

Shorter Waits During Peak Hours

At present, trains on the Yellow Line run at an interval of around 13 minutes on weekdays. With the new train in service, this gap is likely to come down to about 10 minutes during busy hours, helping passengers move faster through stations and reducing platform congestion.

Metro officials say the move comes in response to a steady rise in ridership along the corridor, which connects key residential and work hubs between RV Road and Bommasandra.

Why the Extra Train Matters

Shorter waiting times are expected to make the Yellow Line more attractive for office goers and students, many of whom rely on the Metro for their daily commute. The additional train is also expected to improve service reliability, ensuring smoother operations during rush hour.

Officials say the decision is part of a broader push to strengthen public transport and encourage more people to shift from private vehicles to the Metro.

More Upgrades on the Way

With demand continuing to grow, authorities are already exploring further service enhancements in the coming months. Adding more trains could mean even shorter headways in the future, offering commuters a faster and more comfortable travel experience.

For daily riders, the change may seem small on paper. But in a city where every saved minute counts, the arrival of a seventh train could make a noticeable difference to Bengaluru’s everyday commute.

For now, the commuters of yellow line have received a Sankranti gift from BMRCL and they are happy about it. “2-3 minutes of wait may not look like big when we say, but it definitely means less crowd in next train and a little more breathing space inside because of it" says Ranjan Gowda, a daily commuter.
