Buffalo Sabres forward Josh Dunne is going to remain away from the team for a considerable amount of time due to his injury. The club will be playing without Dunne for the next four-to-six weeks due to a mid-body injury, according to head coach Lindy Ruff, who spoke to the media on Wednesday.
It has not been revealed how Josh Dunne sustained the injury, but multiple reports have suggested that he was last seen playing in the team’s game against the Florida Panthers on Monday, finishing with five penalty minutes through a fighting major against Panthers’ defender Donovan Sebrango.According to reports, he has played almost 28 games this season. Dunne has one goal and three assists for four points and 34 penalty minutes.
Now in his fourth season, the forward has one goal and three assists for four points and 49 penalty minutes with the Sabres and Columbus Blue Jackets.

Buffalo Sabres forward Josh Dunne has been sidelined and will be out for at least six weeks due to a mid-body injury he recently sustained. He will possibly resume playing after the 2026 Olympic Games. This was announced by the team’s coach, Lindy Ruff, on Wednesday. Ruff also stated, "He is going to be out for a period of time. It looks like right now the indications are it's a 4- to 6-week type of injury."
In addition to this, Ruff also disclosed that Defenseman Michael Kesselring could return to game action this week in place of Dunne. “In an emergency basis, Kesselring could play, and we’ll evaluate him for tomorrow,” the head coach said.
Apart from his stint in the NHL, Josh Dunne also appeared in parts of six seasons in the AHL, where he scored 47 goals and 48 assists for 95 points and 198 penalty minutes in 204 regular-season games.Previously, Dunne spent three seasons playing college hockey with Clarkson University. In 78 career NCAA games, he scored 29 goals and 26 assists for 55 points. He also spent parts of four seasons with the USHL’s Green Bay Gamblers, where he recorded 34 goals and 40 assists for 74 points in 140 career regular-season games.Meanwhile, the Sabres are 24-16-4 with 52 points through 44 games in 2025-26, sixth in the Atlantic Division and one point back of a wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference.
