Australian maverick Nick Kyrgios smashed his racquet in an ironically light-hearted moment at the AO 1 Point Slam event at the Rod Laver Arena on Wednesday.

Garland, who reached the final of the inaugural event, got the better of Kyrgios and German Alexander Zverev en route to the summit clash against Aussie amateur player Jordan Smith, who became the first-ever champion of the event ahead of the Australian Open on Wednesday, earning him a million dollars.

Smith progressed past World No.2 Jannik Sinner in the AO 1 Point Slam event, where professionals are allowed just a single serve, as the Italian hit his serve into the net.

Smith triumphed over Garland in the final of the novelty event as he got the better of top-ranked stars such as Jannik Sinner and Amanda Anisimova on his way to the final.

The inaugural event featured 16 amateur players, eight wildcard entries, and 24 professionals, including Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, Iga Swiatek, and Coco Gauff.

In the AO 1 Point Slam, amateurs face professionals in a single-point fixture, with the winner advancing. The receiver of the serve is determined by a round of Rock-Paper-Scissors. Professionals get one serve, while amateurs are given two.
